Increased Baked Goods Yield From Better Controlled Waffle Cutting Machines Using Electric Cylinders

The Challenge
During production of waffles/wafers for cookies and candy, a magazine of dry product is presented to a multiple cutter head as fast as possible. In this step, without proper control, the wafers/waffles can break easily. The machine operating 3 shifts per day continuously was breaking too much product and causing too much yield loss.

The Solution
Close engagement with the engineering teams determined the process could be improved through a different motion sequence. Utilizing the ETH series electric cylinders and an additional purge port, as well as a Compax3 drive/controller communicating on a HEDA motion bus and a Profibus interface to the existing machine controller – Parker increased product yield significantly.
