Dovetail and Half-Dovetail Grooves

It is sometimes necessary to mount an O-ring in a face type groove in such a way that it cannot fall out. The dovetail groove described in Design Charts 4-4 and 4-5 will serve this function. This groove is difficult and expensive to machine, and the tolerances are especially critical. It should be used only when it is absolutely necessary. Special consideration must be taken for FFKM seals used in the dovetail configurations to ensure squeeze and volume fill follow recommendations.
