Allied Systems Logstacker Success Story

Learn how Parker and Allied Systems, a Portland, Oregon-based fabricator of material handling equipment for the wood products industry, worked together to redesign the hydraulic system of their New Generation series Wagner L490 Log Stacker for greater efficiency.  Before the redesign, the L490 took 18 seconds to lift a 45-ton payload from the ground to the top of its lift height of just over 19 feet. With a revised hydraulic system that has twice the hoist speed of the earlier design, Allied Systems was able to significantly reduce cycle times over the previous model L490 by two to one. The major components of the new L490 design include a wide variety of Parker Components, including P3 Pumps, M5 Fan Motors, K220LS and M402LS Valves, IQAN Controls, and Display Electronics.

K&B Lumber Success Story

Learn how Parker and K&B Lumber worked together to innovate sawmill technology in order to increase the production of high-quality lumber for the furniture industry. For the saw’s power source, a Parker Gold Cup P14S Pump was selected, driving a Gold Cup M20R Motor stacked with a Parker F12 Series Bent Axis Motor on the back. This powerful combination allowed for additional system displacement. Overall, K&B Lumber has benefited by a smaller, safer sawmill. The new sawmill has also resulted in more efficient energy usage, while producing more output.

Eco Green Equipment Tire Recycling Success Story

By Eco Green selecting Parker F12 hydraulic motors for the Eco Razor, the equipment has the capability, efficiency, and longevity to cut through the mining tires’ tough rubber layers on a consistent basis. Parker’s P1 Series 045 cc pump and PVplus Axial Piston Pump also rounded out the offering for this demanding industrial application.

Eco Green Crumb Rubber Success Story

Learn how Parker collaborated on the hydraulic system for Eco Green's Krumbuster, revolutionizing crumb rubber production with key hydraulic components including Parker P24 and P6 Gold Cups and T6 Vane Pumps. These Parker pumps were chosen to complement the hydraulic motor due to their reliability, responsiveness, and ability to handle a high shock load.

Construction Equipment Success Story

Learn how a next generation mobile pump, P1M, increases construction equipment performance. The new P1M Series was developed specifically for the OEM mobile application market and is more compact with its patented inlet design, which provides higher power density, best-in-class speed ratings and longer life expectancy.

Rayco Stump Cutter Success Story

Learn how Parker and Rayco collaborated on the design of a new stump cutter by recommending an alternative to a competitive closed-circuit pump and exceed performance targets. Results include an increased system efficiency by 10% over competitor test units, a 10% increase in cutter wheel torque output, and a 20% decrease in heat generation.

Sugarcane Success Story

Learn how Parker’s Global Mobile Systems (GMS) redesigned a sugarcane harvester's hydraulic system to improve efficiency and reduce system complexity.  Results of the redesign include: increased power management, fuel savings, increased machine productivity, and lower system costs.

Gold Cup Hydrostatic Pumps and Motors

Gold Cup piston pumps and motors set the bar for severe duty hydrostats, with design features that extend life, increase productivity, and reduce energy losses. Its robust barrel bearing design, hi-shock capabilities, precise controls, hi-flow ring checks, and auto regulating servo are just a few of the standard features that provide performance in this series up to 3600 rpm and 6000 psi (420 bar).  Gold Cup's high power-to-weight ratio and flexibility in control options deliver significant value-added benefits.

Selecting the Right Motor for Hydraulics

The selection of a motor for a hydraulic application can be complicated. The ideal in hydraulic system design is to match overall efficiencies to the application performance expectation. This Whitepaper will explain how to select between various hydraulic motors, namely: Gear, Vane, Piston and Radial Piston.

Designing for Shock

Hydraulics & Pneumatics, October 2010 The ultimate goal for a shredding system is to reduce the source material-appliances, tires, concrete, etc, - to smaller particles for recycling. To transmit the kw-speed, high-torque power needed for these heavy-duty shredders, a gearbox could be used to reduce speed from an electric motor while multiplying torque. However, hydraulics technology is a more practical solution both for systems driven through gearboxes and those that utilize low-speed, high torque motors in direct-drive systems.

Moving Millions with Hydraulics

Hydraulics & Pneumatics, July 2010 - The pumps used in Columbia's walking system drive are Parker Hannifin T6CC vane pumpswhich provide a single inlet and two outlets. Designed to be self-wear compensating, these pumps tolerate contaminates and maintain high efficiency over their service life. High efficiency means an overall longer life for the hydraulic system. High lifetime efficiency ensures safe and reliable output from the pumps throughout their service.

Aircraft System Design Success Story

A job that involved multiple divisions of Parker Hannifin Corporation illustrates the staggering complexity of design and development projects of this type. Parker was approached by a well-known maker of commercial and executive jets for assistance in developing a new flap control system, including the flap power drive unit (PDU), for its new business jet.

Frameless Motors in Space

Parker frameless motors have been specified into a series of lunar rovers, which will be making their way to the moon over the next several years. The motors are being used to rotate the lunar tires that propel the vehicles across the moon’s surface.

Electric Bus Success Story

While developing its next generation of electric buses, a leading bus manufacturer, reevaluated every aspect of the existing design elements to uncover ways to improve power density, reduce packaging size and weight, lower noise emissions and increase system efficiency as well as improve passenger and driver elements. Parker’s design included the integration of all electric components into the gear box: the electric motor, inverter, transmission, integrated cooling system and service brake. This high degree of integration reduced the number of interfaces to the vehicle and reduced the number of components and therefore, reducing the footprint and weight.

Electrification Webinar

Parker Hannifin’s Hydraulic Pump and Power Systems’ engineers walked OEM Off-Highway readers through the conversion process from an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) to electric by focusing on key considerations and tools to aid in this migration. Through Parker HPS' presenters, the webinar focused on:  What key factors OEM's need to consider when changing from ICE to electric, How to choose the correct system components from both a size and selection perspective, and what to look for in an engineering partner.

Machine Design Quick Chat

There’s a lot of information today on the best way to electrify mobile equipment systems. Identifying the right product combination can deliver increased efficiency, quieter operation, more compact footprint, a lower total cost of ownership, increased reliability, longer lifetime, and an optimized speed range. However, a successful, efficient all-electric or hybrid system is not simply about adding an electric motor. As with any mechanical operation, it’s about how all the components work together.

In this QuickChat, Rob Lorance of Parker Hannifin meets with Bob Vavra of Machine Design to discuss the key information engineers need to know when transitioning to ePumps.

Taking Charge of Hydraulic Efficiency

Diesel, January 2023 - Parker seeks to ease OEMs’ path to electrification, starting with hydraulic systems. OEMs continue to seek a broader range of solutions to meet customer and industry demands for ever greater efficiency, with some going all in on power system advancements like electrification. Yet, when it comes to motion, Chris Griffin, group business development manager, electrification, at Parker Hannifin’s Motion Systems Group, believes it doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing approach.
